IQ Pentagon ~ Timberdoodle Game Review

When homeschooling two children in different grades, it is important to have something fun but also challenging to help during the day. Timberdoodle gave us the opportunity to review IQ Pentagon from SmartGames to review. I can honestly say it has been a huge hit since the moment we opened the box. Game schooling is a great way to not only incorporate learning in a fun way but to also allow parents the ability to provided individual teaching to one child while another plays a game.

What Is IQ Pentagon

If you have read our blog before you might be familiar with the names Timberdoodle and SmartGames. Timberdoodle offers a multitude of homeschool curriculum through 12th grade, you can purchase a bundled curriculum or make your own. They offer not only your core subjects but also many fun games for the individual or the family to enjoy. Eli and I have been enjoying IQ Pentagon since we opened it up two months ago.

The game board is in a shape of a pentagon, it contains 11 colored game pieces, a booklet with 120 challenges and solutions. The challenges in the booklet range in different levels; starter, junior, expert, master, and wizard. The game states it is for ages 14 and up. However, my 10 year old was the most excited and enthusiastic player in the house for this game. He spends many hours building with LEGOS so this game was right up his alley.

The game board contain different grooves and angles for the pieces to fit together. When the pieces are placed in the correct way, they will fill the game board.

How To Play

After taking the board out of the box, the player chooses a challenge from the booklet. The challenge shows the placement of two or more pieces. The pieces that are placed in can not be moved during the play, they are stationary. You can move all other pieces around in the attempt to complete the board. This game is great for spacial reasoning and determination. Don’t worry if the puzzle can not be solved in one sitting, there is a lid that can be placed over the puzzle so it can be safely stored for the next time.

The game is labeled as a one player game, but since we like to find new and creative ways to do things we actually operate it as a two player game. Each player takes a turn trying to complete the puzzle. This is how we sort of make it a speed round type of game. As a busy homeschooling mom, I like that the directions are simple and the game can be played alone and without my assistance (unless I want to play).

Final Thoughts

This game is fun and in a regular rotation, it actually lives on a table in our living room. With 120 challenges this game doesn’t get old or boring. IQ Pentagon can be purchased by itself or as part of the 2026 Twelfth Grade Curriculum Kit.
