Winter Bulletin For Church

One of my favorite things to do is to create bulletin boards for our church. I am blessed to own a Cricut Venture machine to help with the cutting of letters and some graphics. For this bulletin board poster, I chose to only use the Venture to cut out my letters and decided to use watercolor and acrylic paint to create the scene.

The winter months for me are a time of rest and stillness. Well, that is of course if the weather allows us to not be moving snow around. As we begin the new year I like to sit and reflect on God, this means to meditate on His word and worship Him through song. Life gets so busy at times and I often feel I can forget to be still with the Lord and get to know Him more. That is where the idea for this board came from, the need to be still and quiet our hearts to God.

I cut a piece of large white paper to cover the board. With a pencil, I drew a landscape of hills and valleys. This just helped to separate the area where the sky was to be created. I took 100% creative liberty with the sky using my kid’s Crayola watercolors and a very stiff paintbrush to make the sky dark blue and a few wisps of light blue. I didn’t fill in the background because I wanted some white space to look like clouds. The best thing about using watercolors is they dry fast!

With most of the blue washed out of the brush, I went over the white hills to create a less bland scene and maybe show reflection. I am no artist so I purely went on my feelings, not technique or perfection. Using a thin paintbrush and white acrylic paint I made some trees of various heights. With a little request from my son, I added some fine white glitter to the snow adhering it to Mod Podge I painted on the white area.

Using my Cricut Venture I cut out the verse Be Still and Know That I am God. Psalm 46:10 I did this in black cardstock and then glued the letters with just simple Elmer’s school glue. Overall I was very happy with the way this poster turned.
