Are You Ready? The Chosen Season 4 in theaters starting February 1st!

My husband and I have been fans of The Chosen since it began and we have been patiently waiting for Season 4. In preparation for Season 4, I did go back and watch the final episode of Season 3, which you can watch on many streaming platforms for free. You can go see Season 4 of THE CHOSEN in theaters starting 2/1! Get tickets at a theater near you at thechosenriseup.com. I think it’s cool to be able to see The Chosen in the theaters on a big screen! It’s also a great way to support the production and keep it funded. I was thankful for this opportunity to see episodes 1-3 in advance to write this review.

If you have watched the previous seasons of The Chosen you know that Jesus has begun to ramp up his ministry. The previous seasons have shown several miracles such as turning water into wine, making the lame walk, healing the bleeding woman, walking on water, and more!

A few quick notes about episodes 1-3:

  • Running time for Episode 1 – 57:58 minutes
  • Running time for Episode 2 – 80:18 minutes
  • Running time for Episode 3 – 56:55 minutes

Episode 3 did have a disclaimer about a violent scene and parental discretion is advised. I will let you know that the scene involves a person being stabbed with a sword. You will see the sword sticking through the person, and then the assailant looking at the blood on the sword. Episodes 1-3 are shown in succession with a 5-minute intermission between the episodes. About The Chosen

The Chosen is a groundbreaking historical drama based on the life of Jesus (Jonathan Roumie), seen through the eyes of those who knew him. Set against the backdrop of Roman oppression in first-century Israel, the seven-season show shares an authentic and intimate look at Jesus’ revolutionary life and teachings. Season four premieres in theaters February 1, 2024. With over 200 million viewers, The Chosen is one of the most-watched shows in the world. The series is consistently a top performer across streaming platforms Amazon Prime, Peacock, and Netflix plus a top-rated broadcast weekly on The CW. What started as a crowd-funded project has now garnered over 770 million episode views and more than 12 million social media followers. The Chosen is an independent production written, directed, and produced by Dallas Jenkins and distributed globally by Lionsgate.

Season 4 brings about clashing kingdoms. Rival rulers. The enemies of Jesus close in while His followers struggle to keep up, leaving Him to carry the burden alone. Threatened by the reality of Jesus’ growing influence, religious leaders do the unthinkable—ally with their Roman oppressors. As the seeds of betrayal are planted and opposition to Jesus’ message turns violent, He’s left with no alternative but demand his followers RISE UP.

My Thoughts on Episodes 1-3

So I know many people have their opinions on The Chosen, mine happen to be favorable. I am quite aware of the fact that this is an entertainment production. While it is based on and holds true to the facts of the Bible, yes some scenes are based for entertainment. Even in these scenes I have found important Biblical principles discussed and brought out. If anything it makes me want to study my Bible more.

I watched the episodes by myself, I asked my husband if he wanted to know about them he said “No, no spoilers.” So I am not going to give any spoilers here either but will get a general overview. Episode 1 is based around John the Baptist and the Pharisees looking for eyewitnesses to Jesus’ teachings. The Pharisees are starting to move harder and with more purpose to stop Jesus and his teachings. One thing I will say this episode did was bring emotion out, the actors really helped to portray the emotion and invoked that in me.

Episode 2 was the longest in this series of episodes and had some good Biblical principles to remember. One was on forgiveness and giving it even when we feel the person has wronged us deeply. The other message was something that Matthew said to a Roman soldier and it was in regards to following Jesus. He says that every morning he wakes up his thoughts and ideas are jumbled and he is overwhelmed, but he remembers he has one thing to do today. That one thing is to ‘follow Him’.

Episode 3 was intense, but it still had a very good message. Jesus performed another miracle, again he did so on Shabbat in front of the Jewish Synagogue. This of course sets the Pharisees in a fit of anger and they are even more determined to put a stop to Jesus’ teaching. The episode ends with the stabbing of one of Jesus’ followers, he is asked to heal the person. You can see the empathy and sadness in his eyes but he says I’m sorry but it’s not to be that way. I’m pretty sure this is something we have all encountered in some fashion, we all want someone we know or love to be healed of a sickness. We pray and plead but God does not answer the way WE want and we take that as God not loving or hearing us. But the line in the episode from Jesus was “I love you, He loves you”. Even those of us strong in faith sometimes need to be reminded of this because at times the world can make us feel unloved.
