Here is what comes to my mind when I hear the word VACANT – empty, without, or void. They all pretty much mean the same thing or bring the same thought. Recently, my husband and I taught our youth group about Jesus being the vine and we are the branches, apart from Him we are nothing and our lives will bear no fruit. So in other words without Him there is a vacant spot, one that truly needs to be filled by Him.
I also just recently read a book that was talking about how we like God in certain spaces of our life but keep Him out of other places. We want Him to be vacant in certain aspects of our life because we want to have that control. It is easy to accept sin if we don’t allow God into certain parts of our life. But this is not God’s design for us. He doesn’t want to be vacant from our life, not in whole or in part. It is important to let God into every aspect of your life, He will refine it for your good and His glory.
All of this means we need to keep ourselves from filling our vacant time with things or others that might lead us to sin or away from God. It is easy to become selfish of our free time, wanting to fill it with things WE want to do because it will give us that quick dopamine rush and it feels good at the moment. But I know that I need to give God time, I need to not push Him out to make a vacant space so I can do what I desire. This is a hard thing because our human nature is naturally selfish and does desire self pleasure. Each day it is a choice to fill any vacant spot in my life with my desires or God. I know there are times I choose myself but I am working on choosing God above all.

Thank you. Yes, we have a Jesus shaped space that is left vacant until we invite Him in!

So true. And it’s easy to detect when someone is filled with him! ❤️ G
