Five Minute Friday ~ Favor

I realize I am two days behind in getting this post live. But I really had this word sit in my mind and heart for the past few days. Part of me was just going to let it slip on by but for some reason it just kept being pushed into the front of my mind even thought I was attempting to forget or let it go.

Favor really has a lot of different meanings depending on the situation. It can mean something special, approval, giving something to someone, or showing preference. Sometimes we or others do a “favor” expecting something in return for our action or gift. But this is not the way with our God. He did not give us eternal life through the death of Jesus based on us giving Him anything. His gift came without any strings attached or expectations. He even tells us that His grace is not the results of our works.

Sometimes we can feel like we are not receiving the favor of God. But this is not anything to do with Him but us. To see and feel the favor of God we have to have faith in Him. When we see and feel His blessings then we feel “favor”. In the past when I have had some really hard moments it can feel very lonely and I thought God was far away from me. In those moments, I began to lean more on God and my faith in return strengthened. Finding peace and healing in those moments I felt God’s favor in my walk with Him.

  1. God’s favour seems quite far away

from this place of galling pain.

Why does He not come, and stay?

    Why must I remain

in cancer’s cruel and static chair,

    with oxygen on ‘full’.

Is He not hearing my prayer,

can He not feel its pull

    of something born of desperation,

    something soaked in blood?

    Why, oh, why His hesitation…

    and sudden comes the flood

of warmth that pushes back the harms,

as I am caught up in His arms.
