Get Your Kids Up and Dancing with YouDance.com ~ A Review

Are you looking for a fun way to get your kids up and moving? Is your child interested in dance but the high cost of classes, outfits, and possible travel to competitions is too much. Or maybe your child is interested in dance but doesn’t want to be competitive with it, they just want to do something fun. We recently got the opportunity to check out YouDance.com an online dance program. This is a great program for homeschooling families looking to add dance to their day or to give their children the opportunity to learn dance in a non-competitive environment.

What is YouDance.com

YouDance.com is an online dance class platform that teaches five genres of dancing. The dancing classes are ballet, hip-hop, jazz, contemporary, and clogging.

The aim of this program is to add wholesome, fun, and online educational dance classes for homeschool families. I would even say it certainly can extend to all families that wish to add some dance into their routine. Here are some great things about the program

  • Dance at your own pace
  • No supplies are necessary (but if wanting to continue into the more advanced classes it can be helpful)
  • Independent learning
  • Wholesome content – clean music, uplifting content, no inappropriate moves, no advertisements

You can choose from three different subscription options: monthly, annually, or lifetime. This is great for flexibility, so if you are like us we tend to need some more indoor movement activities during the winter months. It is a great option for larger families because one price covers the family! I love programs like this, no separate subscriptions or logins!

My Thoughts

Both of my kids love to have fun and dance around but neither have an interest in organized dance. Personally, I remember in school being taught different dances in gym class. Not that I can really remember what they were but I know it took place. Since they don’t have a specific interest in a certain type of dance, this program gives a good introduction to different genres of dance. So the first step was showing my kids the different offerings of this program.

Since all the classes are available in a subscription, it is okay if you try something out but decide to change after a few lessons. I absolutely LOVE programs that give this type of flexibility. Each program has different course levels and some do have more than others. For example, contemporary dance has 5 courses at the moment while clogging has two.

There is no set schedule, you don’t have to log in at a certain time. Your child can dance several times a day, daily, three times a week, and repeat lessons if they choose. The lessons are divided up into weeks but you can choose what works best for your family. The lessons are also fairly short so it is easy to work into your day.

Something I wasn’t expecting but absolutely loved was the history of the dance that was given as an introduction. Not to mention the short quizzes at the end of a lesson section, don’t worry these were multiple choice and just a great way to help kids remember some important facts of the dance. (Don’t think any test anxiety thought, these are not scary) Your score does not determine if you move to the next set of lessons, so you can do them with your child if you choose. If you wish, you can skip over the quiz.

One thing I would mention, parents there is no need to feel left out. Get up and dance with your kids! I thought it was fun (even though I am quite sure I have two left feet and trip over air).

If you are searching for something to do during the cold winter months, and have children interested in dance but not quite interested in a formal dance class, check out Youdance.com today!
