My Thoughts

I love a good uplifting Christmas story. This book was a fairly easy read and kept me engaged every time. Even though the main character, Jillian, suffers from PTSD due to an attack, there are no details about it to make the story or book bleak. Instead, the book focuses on how God can use our brokenness for beauty.

The book is centered around Jillian, who moves back to her grandmother’s town of Hope Crossing after being attacked on a morning run. She later discovers she is pregnant and decides to keep the baby. This of course gets some questioning from family and others around her get the wrong idea that she is having a baby out of wedlock. Even in a new town people are talking and she overhears them, this leads her to do something she never thought she had the strength to do — talk a little about what happened to her.

Before the attack, Gabe and Jillian were becoming close. After her attack, Jillian started to ignore Gabe, without telling her why. This left him hurt and confused but when she moves back to Hope Crossing, they are neighbors. Due to their grandmother’s urging to make a special event for their church happen, Jillian and Gabe need to spend a lot of time together. Can they become friends again and move past this event? Can Jillian trust again and think that she is worthy of being loved after she feels damaged?
