The Beauty of Gods Word ~ NIV Beautiful Word Coloring Bible

Have you been in awe of the beautiful artwork some people do in their Bible? I know I absolutely get drawn into seeing the photos and/or videos of people creating artwork in their Bible. However, I am not that super confident or talented not to mention I am so terrified to mess up. Thankfully for those who wish to add some artistic flair to their Bible Zondervan has released an updated NIV Beautiful Word Bible Coloring Bible.

Features

I was sent the NIV Beautiful Word Bible courtesy of HarperCollins Publishing and I am pleased to share my review with you. Firstly, the Bible is a beautiful pink leathersoft cover with some flowers decorating the cover, a perfect Bible for a girl or woman. My daughter had a previous version of the Beautiful Word Bible, but it was hardcover. While she loved the Bible, it has begun to show some serious wear and the cover is beginning to fall off. With the leathersoft cover this will not be an issue, plus the pages lay flatter allowing for easier coloring.

The text is in single column format, so even if you are not going to draw on your own in the Bible it does have adequate lined margin space to allow for note taking. This is important to me because I often am writing text alongside verses and passages. The paper is a bit thicker than my study Bible, this is to ensure that the coloring and writing does not bleed through. However, I would still use caution on the type of medium used when coloring or writing in this Bible. I tend to always test my highlighters, pencils, or pens in either the back pages of the index beforehand.

The type size of this Bible is 8, I think this is fairly common for most Bibles. If you are wondering size 8 is not difficult for my eyes but for some it might be rather small. The words of Jesus are not in red. There are no maps, no indexes either, there are some footnotes at the bottoms of the pages for references or extra information. This is NOT a study Bible so don’t confuse my words of resources or extra information as significant text.

Final Thoughts

Who is this Bible best for? In my opinion, this Bible is great for those who find joy in coloring but also want to read the Bible. The NIV translation is a great version for those beginning their Christian walk as it is more relatable to the English language we use today. While this Bible gives some wonderful artwork to depict some important verses and truths of God, it doesn’t look at overwhelming or intimidating as a study Bible might be to someone new in the faith. As I mentioned before, we gave the previous version of this Bible to our daughter when she was 12. It served her well as she grew in her faith and the coloring aspect made her more apt to open her Bible more than once a day.

If you are looking for a gift for a girl or woman, this Bible is sure to appeal to them. The coloring is a wonderful bonus to those who find coloring calming. It also can help a person focus and release the stresses of the day and world. The different ready to color line art can also help with verse memorization. We know people retain information using a variety of different methods and way of learning, this is another great tool.

  1. My favorite verse is Jeremiah 29:11. I have looked at these types of Bibles before. They look very interesting. I like the idea of trying a mix of notes and stamping in a Bible. I think that would be very cool-and make the passages even more meaningful.
