It is that time of year…the most wonderful time of the year! This is the time of year when it becomes “socially” acceptable to watch Christmas movies. No, I am not sorry that I do not box Christmas into a specific time of year or month. I am the person that if I enjoy a movie, music, or decoration I will embrace it and enjoy whenever I feel like it. I have been patiently waiting for the movie THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER, and I was so excited to be given the chance to view it in advance. You watch THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER film, in theaters everywhere beginning November 8th
If you haven’t had the opportunity to see the trailer yet, check it out below.
Nobody is ready for the mayhem and surprises that ensue when six of the worst youngsters disrupt the town’s yearly Christmas performance. This movie is based on the beloved Christmas Children’s book of the same title published in 1972 by Barbara Robinson has sold more than 7 million copies since its publication. I have never read this book, so my review will not compare the two.
About The Movie
The Herdman kids are absolutely the worst. They lie, they steal, they bully…and they’ve hijacked the town Christmas pageant. Directed by Dallas Jenkins (“The Chosen”) and based on the international bestseller by Barbara Robinson, THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER follows six siblings who sneak into church searching for snacks and walk away with the lead roles in the town pageant. Grace (Judy Greer) is directing the performance for the very first time; she and her daughter Beth (Molly Belle Wright) and husband Bob (Pete Holmes) are less than amused. But the play’s mischievous stars might unwittingly teach a community the true meaning of Christmas. Featuring Lauren Graham. Screenplay by Ryan Swanson and Platte F. Clark & Darin McDaniel.
My Thoughts
I watched this movie by myself, then I asked my family to watch it with me. It held the attention of my 8 year old son. This is a family movie, but I would say it would probably be most enjoyed by those 8 years old and older. The Herdman kids are exactly as you think…rough around the edges. No profanity is in the movie but there are a few Oh My G_d’s, it is then approached by saying we don’t take the Lord’s name in vain. This is nothing my kids haven’t heard before, but it something that we do not say because we hold God’s name in respect and as holy.

With the Herdman’s cast in all the lead parts of the play, many in church feel the play is going to be a disaster. If anything it definitely will not be performed in the same manner it has been for the past several years. No one is seeing this as a good thing…until you begin to really think about the meaning of Christmas. Will they be able to understand the meaning of Christmas and retell the story to put on the best Christmas pageant ever?
There are many scenes in this movie that really are moving but I don’t want to give any spoilers (if you haven’t read the book, which I haven’t so I don’t know if there are any differences) This movie gives a great message for everyone to think about not only this Christmas season but throughout the year. So plan a movie day or night for you family and go out to see THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER.
