As of late, I have found it rather difficult to find books at the library for my middle schooler. I am also keeping my eyes on the watch for books that my son would be interested in when he is a little older. He is just beginning to read longer chapter books, so it won’t be long before he begins to devour novels. My husband and I both agree that our kids don’t need books that push any agenda or political stance. Unfortunately, that is becoming harder to find currently. So when a book comes along that is about adventure and friendship, I am pleased to give a read and review. I received an electronic copy of Nemesis and the Vault of Lost Time by PJ Davis from the author.
Book Synopsis
In “Nemesis and the Vault of Lost Time,” Max’s daydreaming is becoming a bit of a problem for him in school. He is losing a considerable amount of time in class daydreaming, or so it seems the problem is just a case of daydreaming. One afternoon while Max is in his Uncle’s bookstore he is approached by a professor who gives him a mysterious book and tells him of a threat to the world. There are time thieves draining time from the world, storing it in a vault for an invasion. Max calls upon his two friends, Derek and Samatha to join him in a quest to stop them. Along the way, Max learns that this professor has a connection to his father who disappeared years ago. Together they must navigate through the Nemesis, defeat the time thieves, and stop the invasion.

My Opinion
Firstly, I want to say that I agree with the age recommendation of this book. It definitely is geared more for middle schoolers as it mentions on the author’s website. The Nemesis and the Vault of Lost Time is a fantasy, sci-fi, and adventure book that is sure to draw in children. It also has an element of mystery as well. At the current moment, I read the book by myself because my son, who would probably be most intrigued by this book, is under the age recommended. I could have done this book as a read aloud but we have been in the summer mode at the present moment. After reading the book, I do think that my daughter might find this book entertaining. She has started taking an interest in fantasy type of books. It has been rather difficult to find a clean fantasy book for her age.
I found the book entertaining. It kept my interest and when a cliffhanger arose it made me want to keep reading. I could easily see reading this to my son in a couple years. Currently, he is in third grade, I think this book would be appealing to him probably around fifth grade. My daughter (eighth grade) could easily read this book independently.
As a parent, I am glad to have a book I can recommend to my children that is just a good fun read. There is nothing questionable in the material that would make me hesitate to give this to my children. I really liked the fact that the book not only had two boys who were friends but also included a girl and she was a positive character.
