My Thoughts

There is nothing like a good, wholesome Christmas love story to get me into the Christmas spirit. I was very excited to be given the opportunity to read this book and I have to say I had a very hard time putting it down. I wanted to read the entire book in one sitting. There was nothing suspenseful in this book but I didn’t want to stop reading, I needed to know the outcome.

Quick Synopsis (don’t worry I won’t spoil the ending for you!)

Vivian Bryant is a barrel racer who at the start of the book is faced with a dilemma. Her horse Dusty, has some injuries that the vet says warrants retirement. This news is crushing to Vivian, she is set to compete in the biggest barrel racing competition in a week and this will be her last chance to prove to her parents that she can make a life/career from barrel racing. Her good friend Maggie and fellow rider Ryan Sloan convince her to go to Ryan’s brother, Josh (a horse trainer), and ask for a horse to ride. Side note, Maggie is engaged to Grant, a brother of Ryan and Josh. Don’t worry at first it is a lot of names being introduced but they are part of the story throughout so it’s not complicated.

While broken down on the road, Josh has an encounter with a cowgirl he later tells his grandfather and uncle he is going to marry. Well, it just so happens that when he arrives at his home that cowgirl is there and needs a horse to ride. But Josh has plans to sell his horses in an attempt to chase a dream of his, he needs a champion rider. Out of the blue, his ex-wife a champion barrel racer pulls up to the house looking for a horse to ride in the next race too.

Just when Vivian thought it couldn’t get any more awkward, her parents, sister, and brother-in-law, show up at the Sloan’s farm. Vivian tells her family that Josh is her boyfriend and he willingly plays along. When the championship race is canceled due to a fire, Vivian’s dreams of being a barrel racer and not an insurance broker like her family wants is in danger. The Sloan family gets the idea to host the championship in their town and organize it too. But this will take all hands on deck, Vivian’s family steps in to help as well.

While planning the championship, Vivian and Josh start to have feelings for each other. But each has a path they want to follow. Will their romance grow or will they choose to follow their career dreams?
