Well, I am glad you asked!! If you have ever searched homeschool curriculum on Google you are immediately bombarded with a vast array of choices. So how do you whittle through all the choices? I will admit I was once there too! It was a bit overwhelming, to say the least. Thankfully, I found SchoolhouseTeachers.com, and all the guesswork was lifted off my shoulders. For starters, if you are homeschooling multiple children in different grade levels, your membership covers your ENTIRE family! From curriculum choices for pre-k thru grade level 12 and resources for parents too!! It is a financial relief not having to buy separate curriculums for my kids.
SchoolhouseTeachers.com is an online, self-paced, homeschool curriculum source. You can choose between three payment options; monthly, quarterly, or annually. What To Expect When Signing Up
As with any website, there is a little learning curve and I would suggest you give yourself some time to look through the site. There are a couple different ways to choose the courses for your child or children. You can go through the site and choose individual courses or you can choose to use the courses in the School Boxes. The curriculum boxes are not physical materials instead it provides a course guide for the entire year. It covers all the core subjects all in one place so you don’t have to search through the courses on your own.
I have done a mix of both approaches. While I might open a school box and look at the courses offered, I also like to browse through the site. I enjoy finding courses that are suited to my children’s individual needs and interests. In the member dashboard is a great place called bookmarks, this allows me to bookmark a course while I’m searching and then go back to it quickly.
Since I am a visual learner, I like to write things out for my planning purposes. So I made a printout to put in my homeschool binder to help me see our choices and for planning the school year. Feel free to download the printable if you need.
I’ve signed Up, Now What?
Now is the time you get to pick the classes you want your child to learn this year. There are many different ways families approach teaching their children. Some print out the lessons and answer keys, while others will download the lessons and share them on Google Classroom. There are also interactive and video lessons available for some classes. There is a key on the course pages that will show you the components of the course.
I happen to be a print things out person. In order to make printing easy for us, we are enrolled in HP Instant Ink.
