With grocery prices and other basic things such as utilities rising, many of us are feeling a financial pinch on our budgets. In the past one of the biggest ways to save my budget was menu planning. However, I will be honest, it can be a bit time consuming to look for recipes and just think about a weeks worth of food. I used to rotate my menus through the month cutting down on the constant need to think so hard! I tried to have about six or eight different menus that I could pull out to use.
Let’s fast-forward a couple years and just say that I pretty much abandoned that system for some reason. I put away my household binder and just did everything pretty much on the fly. As I think about it all, I am pretty disgusted with all the food I know we wasted as a family because I was not prepared. Interestingly, I have been working through the rooms in my home and cleaning stuff out because I need this fresh start. Guess what I found in the depths of a closet? My old household binder and I thought “well I really should put this to use”.
I created a menu planning sheet years ago that I really liked. I’ve included it below if you would like to print it out for your own use. I should add that I don’t put meals on specific days, I like a little bit of flexibility 😉
I am also going to share with you my menu for the week, it might give you some new food ideas!
Now maybe you have never made Schnitzel or Zuppa Toscana Soup but these are pretty easy recipes and the ingredients are pretty minimal. The schnitzel recipe is one that my Grammy gave me, the same with Spatzle which I have a press for but you can substitute it with egg noodles.
Here is the pin for the Zuppa Toscan soup recipe I am using. You can also look at my pinterest boards for more recipes! Here is a recipe for schnitzel, the difference in my recipe is that my grandmother uses cornflakes instead of bread crumbs.
Be sure and follow me on Instagram to see the meals of the week ingredients and prepared!
