On my previous blog I participated in Five Minute Friday and I decided to included it back on this blog. If you are unfamiliar with Five Minute Friday it is a one-word prompt and writing about the word for five minutes.
This weeks prompt is Receive.
I have always been one to feel it is better to give than to receive. I am horrible at accepting gifts or help of any kind. I much rather prefer being on the giving side of things and be the worker. I love giving to others, my husband has said it is a spiritual gift of mine. But when I saw today’s prompt receive I immediately thought about grace.
We often talk about receiving God’s grace but do we fully realize what that means? God’s grace is given to us without any stipulations or agenda. We do nothing to deserve God’s grace. God is gracious, that is His character. But we do have to be willing to receive His grace. We have to be willing to accept the gift of grace and that is has nothing to do with our own works or ourselves. Such a difficult concept in a “me” and “I” culture.
But grace doesn’t just come from God. As children of God we are learning to become like Him. We should extend grace to others without expectations or return. Our hope is that our actions will shine the light of God and draw people to receive Him.
