Return of The Life We Build Blog

It has been a year or so since I wrote a blog post. We made some life changes and I was no longer able to keep up with blogging. It was was sad to close my blog, I didn’t keep all of my posts saved so I lost everything. But let me share with you all the changes we have made and gone through the past year and a half.

In July of 2021, I encouraged and supported my husband in pursuing a dream. Since 1996, Matt has always worked full time in public safety. This meant many missed holidays, birthdays, and limited family time. This is one of the many reasons homeschooling was the best option for us. So after 15 years, Matt stepped away from full time public safety.

I could feel God leading us in this direction and I made the choice to enter the workforce. It had been 6 years since I worked out of the home. My résumé was dusty but I felt a peace. Well, I applied to a job and after two weeks I received a thanks for applying but they didn’t want to move forward.

At this moment there was a bit of panic from my husband. I (the typical one who worries) felt a great peace and told him, “Don’t worry I got this.” I worked on polishing my résumé and applied to more jobs. Within a day I had a letter of interest, and a phone call to set up an interview.

By the middle of August I had a job! It was a whirlwind of emotions. I was scared, excited, and relieved. We knew no matter what homeschooling was still the educational choice for our kids. It was going to look very different but we knew together we could make it work.

We were making it through and it was such a breath of fresh air to have my husband home so much. However, my work was mentally draining. Customer service is hard and people can be very cruel sometimes. It took its toll on me and then a family tragedy hit. I lost my brother. It was sudden, heartbreaking, and very hard for me to focus. With a lot of prayer and the support of my husband, I departed from my job.

Now, I am working on my own business. I also help my husband with his business. We still homeschool—YAY!! My daughter loves to write, draw, and read. So I began to think about a fun way for her to share these things and also make it part of school. I decided to start a blog again. It is also something she and I can do together. Making time and connecting is very important, she is excited to have a part in the writing of this blog.

So, I hope you will stick around and join us on our journey through the life we build.
